Privacy Policy
In short: SleepHabit keeps your sleep log on your iPhone. There is no account, no server of ours, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. What you log never reaches us — we have no way to read it.
1. What SleepHabit is
SleepHabit is a sleep journal. Each night you record when you went to bed, when you woke up, how many times you woke, and how you felt (1–5). For the day before that night you can tag caffeine, alcohol, exercise, stress, screen time or a nap, together with a rough time of day. The app then compares your own nights and describes the patterns it finds.
There is also a Home Screen widget: tapping Start when you get into bed and Stop when you wake up records those two times so you do not have to hold them in your head. The app turns them into a normal night the next time you open it — same data, same place.
All of that calculation happens on your device. This policy explains what the app stores, what leaves the device, and what we do with it — which is nothing, because we never receive your data.
2. Data we collect
Data Not Collected
We do not collect personal data. There is no sign-up, no iCloud sync in this version, no backend and no user database, so there is nowhere on our side for your information to be held.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising SDKs.
- No advertising identifier (IDFA) and no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
- No access to HealthKit, location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
- No third-party libraries of any kind are bundled with the app.
3. What the app stores on your device
Everything below lives inside the app's sandboxed storage on your iPhone. None of it is uploaded by the app.
| What | Contents |
|---|---|
| Night entries | Night date, bedtime, wake time, number of night wakings, energy score 1–5, an optional free-text note (up to 280 characters), and the factor tags you selected with their time buckets. |
| App settings | Whether you finished onboarding, whether the daily reminder is on and at what time, and a cached flag recording that you unlocked the paid features, so the unlock keeps working offline. |
| Widget hand-off | If you use the Home Screen widget, the time you tapped Start and the time you tapped Stop. Nothing else: no tag, no energy score, no note. It lives in a small container that the app and its own widget share on the same device, and it is replaced by the next night you record. |
Night entries stay until you delete them or delete the app. Notes are optional and entirely up to you — please avoid writing anything there you would not want in a plain text file, because an export is a plain text file.
4. What leaves your device
The app has no server to talk to. Data moves in exactly two situations, and both are started by you.
| Situation | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|
| You tap Unlock or Restore purchase | The purchase request and your App Store account session, handled by StoreKit. No sleep data is included. | Apple, under your Apple Account and Apple's privacy policy. |
| You tap Export backup | A JSON file containing all of your night entries, which the system share sheet hands to whichever destination you pick (Files, AirDrop, Mail, and so on). | Whichever app or service you choose. We are not involved and receive nothing. |
That is the entire list. The app makes no other network request: no configuration fetch, no remote flags, no remote content, and no update check of its own.
About the export file. The backup is unencrypted JSON so that it stays readable and portable. Treat it like any other document containing personal notes, and keep it somewhere you trust. Importing a backup replaces every entry currently in the app; the app asks you to confirm first.
5. Notifications
The daily reminder is a local notification scheduled by iOS on your device. There is no push server and no notification content leaves your phone. If you enable reminders, the app asks iOS for permission once; you can turn reminders off in the app's settings or in iOS Settings at any time.
6. Device backups
SleepHabit does not upload your data, but if you use iCloud Backup or a computer backup, iOS may include the app's data in that backup. That transfer is performed by Apple under your Apple Account and your backup settings, and is governed by Apple's privacy policy — not by this app. You can review or disable device backups in iOS Settings.
7. Your control and deletion
- Edit a night: open it from Today or History and change any value.
- Delete a night: swipe left on it in History, or use Delete inside the entry.
- Delete everything: uninstalling the app removes its whole container — entries, settings and the cached unlock flag.
- Keep a copy: Settings → Export backup, before you delete anything.
Because we never receive your data, there is no server-side copy to request, correct or erase, and no data of yours that we could hand over. Deletion in the app is immediate and final; the only copies that survive are ones you exported yourself or a device backup made by iOS.
8. How insights are calculated
Insights are simple statistics run over your own log, on your device. To keep them honest the app only shows a finding when there is enough data and the difference is large enough to matter.
- Free: a 14-day window (a 7-day window is also available), at least 3 nights with and 3 without the factor, and at least 5 nights logged in total.
- Paid: 14, 30, 90, 365 days or all time, at least 5 nights with and 5 without, and at least 14 nights logged in total.
- Noise floor: 15 minutes of sleep timing, 0.5 night wakings, or 0.3 energy points. Below that the app stays quiet rather than invent a pattern.
Results are associations, not causes. SleepHabit is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. If you have a sleep problem, talk to a clinician.
9. Third parties
The only third party involved is Apple: the App Store and StoreKit for the one-time purchase, and iOS itself for storage, notifications and the share sheet. There are no analytics providers, ad networks, crash reporters or data brokers. We do not sell or share personal information, because we do not have any.
10. Children
SleepHabit is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children — or from anyone, since the app collects no data at all.
11. Security
Your log sits inside the app's sandbox and is protected by iOS encryption and your device passcode. The app stores no credentials and implements no cryptography of its own. The practical risk to your data is device-level: keep a passcode on, keep iOS current, and be careful where you send an exported backup.
12. Changes to this policy
If the app's behaviour changes in a way that affects privacy — for example, if a future version adds optional iCloud sync — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change, with material changes noted in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the app after an update means the revised policy applies. This version describes SleepHabit 1.0.2.
