Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the app need location permission?

RunningAir uses GPS to record your running route, distance, pace, and elevation. Location is only tracked during active recording sessions. A blue indicator appears in the status bar when GPS is active.

Does background location drain my battery?

Location updates only occur while you are recording a run. If you leave the app idle (not recording), no GPS data is collected and no battery is used for location.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

All data is stored locally on your device. If you uninstall the app, your runs and data are permanently deleted. Use the Export Database feature (Settings → Export Database) to back up your data before uninstalling.

Can I transfer my data to a new iPhone?

Yes. Export your database from the old device (Settings → Export Database), send the .sqlite file to the new device, then import it in RunningAir (Import → select the .sqlite file).

Can I import runs from other apps?

RunningAir supports importing GPX files and ZIP archives containing GPX files from apps like FitoTrack, Garmin Connect, Strava (GPX export), and others. You can also import a previously exported RunningAir .sqlite database.

What AI analysis features are included?

On-device AI classifies each run into one of four categories:

Analysis uses pace, pace fade, pace variability, distance, duration, and elevation gain — processed entirely on your device via Core ML, and also takes your recent training frequency and load into account.

What is the fatigue warning?

Beyond a single run, the app looks at your trailing 7/28 days of training — distance, frequency, load, and consecutive run days — to spot fatigue. When it detects a heavy stretch, it shows an orange warning line in the run's advice card and a small triangle next to the run in your history list (orange = tired, red = overreached). It only ever makes the advice more conservative (for example, suggesting an easy or rest day), never more aggressive. All of this is computed on your device from your own runs.

How do I rate how a run felt?

Rating is optional. Open a run from your history and tap Record how this run felt, then choose the option that best matches your experience. You can change or clear it at any time from the same section. Your rating stays on your device and is used only as a personal reference alongside the app's own analysis — it does not change the advice category.

Does Live Activity work without a subscription?

Yes. The Dynamic Island and Lock Screen Live Activity is free for all users, including the free tier.

What does the elevation profile show?

The run detail page shows an interactive elevation chart along your route. Drag along the chart to see the elevation at any point. The chart uses GPS altitude data, which may be less accurate than barometric altimeter data.

Why is my pace sometimes inaccurate for imported GPX files?

If a GPX file doesn't include speed data, RunningAir computes speed from GPS coordinates using the Haversine formula. This can be slightly less accurate than native speed data, especially in areas with poor GPS reception or frequent turns.
